Abstract:
|
In a number of cases encountered in natural sciences, sociology, medicine, etc., more than one alternative methods of measurements are available to the researcher. The choice of the best method is often difficult for different reasons: insufficient knowledge about the objects under study, presence of disturbing factors such as noise, complex measuring techniques and/or procedures that are not controlled well. Such situation is considered in this paper.
Examples of position measurements for image records of objects that are of microscopic size such as cathode spots studied in physics of arc discharges are considered although the approach developed here can be used for other cases. A method to quantify and, possibly, minimize the uncertainty of such measurements is proposed.
