Cover of the book

Generalized Nets Modelling of Biotechnological Processes is a book by Anthony Shannon, Olympia Roeva, Tania Pencheva and Krassimir Atanassov, published in 2004 by "Prof. Marin Drinov" Publishing house of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, under ISBN 954-322-039-5.

The purpose of this book is to apply the innovative alternative approach of generalized nets to modelling of biotechnological processes. As a result, various decisions can be made in general about the optimal implementation of the processes within the meaning of technological time and about the quality of products.

In this book the apparatus of generalized nets, as well as intuitionistic fuzzy logic are implemented for the first time in the modelling of biotechnological processes like: different operational modes of fermentation processes, different fermentation processes such as fed-batch fermentations of Escherichia coli and Brevibacterium flavul, methane fermentation, as well as for the wastewater treatment processes.

The use of GNs for the description of biotechnological processes affords the following opportunities:

  • online control;
  • searching of optimal conditions for the fermentation;
  • process of learning on the basis of experimental data;
  • control on the basis of expert systems.

As a result of applying techniques for the different biotechnological processes, various decisions can be made in general about the optimal implementation of the processes within the meaning of technological time and about the quality of products.
