Prof. Janusz Kacprzyk

Professor Janusz Kacprzyk Ph.D., D.Sc. (born on 12 July 1947 in Warsaw, Poland) is a Polish scientist, head of the Intelligent Systems Laboratory of the Systems Research Institute, Full member of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Foreign member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Spanish Royal Academy of Economic and Financial Sciences (RACEF). Prof. Kacrpzyk is past President of the International Fuzzy Systems Association (2009-2011) and President of the Polish Society for Operational and Systems Research.

In June 2014, partly for his works in the area of intuitionistic fuzzy sets Prof. Janusz Kacprzyk is elected a new Fellow of the European Coordinating Committee for Artificial Intelligence (ECCAI), which is the highest distinction in AI in Europe.

Education

  • 1965 - 1970; Studies at the Department of Electronics, Warsaw University of Technology in Warsaw, Poland. Major field: computer science and automatic control.
  • M.S. in computer science and automatic control received in October, 1970 from the Warsaw University of Technology.
  • Ph.D. with distinction in systems analysis received in October, 1977 from the Systems Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, Poland. Dissertation title: Application of fuzzy sets theory for the optimization of organizational structures.
  • D.Sc. (habilitation) in computer science in 1990 from the Systems Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences.
  • Full Professor, since 1997, awarded by President of the Republic of Poland.
  • Academician (Member of the Polish Academy of Sciences), since 2002.

Professor Kacprzyk's fields of scientific interest and research are:

  • Uncertainty and imprecision in systems modelling,
  • Intelligent decision support systems,
  • Data mining and knowledge discovery,
  • Soft computing, theory and applications,
  • Fuzzy logic.

He is author of numerous publications of fuzzy and intuitionistic fuzzy sets.
